Don't forget that you need to hand in 10 Log Sheets, your booklets and detailed notes on one of your focus films this Friday. You will need to come and find me as we don't have a class on Friday.

Gender In Fight Club
Now that you have learnt all about gender in Fight Club you need to complete all the worksheets that relate to gender and masculinity in your Fight Club booklet (it is included somewhere below.....). You should be reading the article on pages 3 - 6 (and answering the question) as homework for Ms Gillies but there are several worksheets to complete as well! They will get you to look at the film from a range of viewpoints connected to the Gender Context/Critical Approach. You need to think about how useful this approach is in terms of helping you to understand the film and its messages. You may need to re watch key scenes again.

Fight Club and the 8 Critical Approaches
We need to study Fight Club from 8 different viewpoints or approaches. These approaches are the same ones that your research project was based on.
You need to start finding out about the Institution which produced it - Fox (who is ultimately owned by News Corp and Rupert Murdoch... 0f News of the World/Phone hacking fame.....)
- Star and performance
- Genre
- Auteur
- Social and Political Context (messages)
- Institutions
- Gender
EthnicityTechnologyThese last two are not useful when studying Fight Club

Here is a copy of the booklet we will be using for this topic - You can be working through it on your own and at times I will set parts as homework.

Unsupervised Lesson 19 December
Today you are focusing on the themes of La Haine. You need to read the article below (including the comments made by other people at the end) and complete the Theme Task sheet. Use your own knowledge and ideas about the film but you can also research a bit on the internet and read other parts of your La Haine booklet.
Don't forget that you need to have analysed scenes from the film, taking screen grabs to highlight your points.
You also need to be working on your Creative project - coming up with an idea and choosing which format you are going to work in

Micro Analysis of La Haine - Own Choice of Scenes
Now that you have looked in detail at the opening scenes, you need to choose up to 4 other scenes to study. Try to choose scenes that are significant to the plot, representation, themes etc.
Good ones could include the DJ scene, the toilet scene, the ending, gate crashing the Art gallery, the Eiffel Tower scene, the run ins with the skinheads, the police interrogation scene, the visit to Asterix etc
